Amazon Now Collects Sales Taxes for Sellers in 43 States

It’s been over a year since I last wrote about which states Amazon collects sales tax for, so I’m going to update my list of states where Amazon does and doesn’t collect sales tax for you.

Since my last update in January of 2020, Amazon added 6 more states where it collects sales tax for sellers:

  • Alaska
  • Georgia
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Tennessee

That leaves just 3 states where sales tax collection is not done by Amazon:

  • Florida
  • Kansas
  • Missouri

4 states that don’t have sales tax:

  • Delaware
  • Montana
  • New Hampshire
  • Oregon

This brings the total number of states Amazon collects sales tax for to 43, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I’ve created a quick reference table to show which states sales tax is or is not collected by Amazon:

***It’s important to note that sales tax can be a difficult topic, and you should seek the advice of a professional tax advisor to tell you how you should handle sales tax for your business.
