As of today, July 1st, 2021, Amazon now collects sales taxes for sellers in all states (where necessary) except for one:  Missouri.

I last talked about the list of states Amazon collects sales tax for in February, and with Amazon’s recent announcement adding Florida and Kansas to the list of states they collect for, I’m updating my list of states showing where Amazon does and doesn’t collect sales tax.

Which States Does Amazon Not Collect Sales Tax?

With the addition of Florida and Kansas, there is just 1 state where sales tax collection is not done by Amazon:

  • Missouri

There are 4 states that don’t have sales tax:

  • Delaware
  • Montana
  • New Hampshire
  • Oregon

Which States Does Amazon Collect Sales Tax for Sellers?

This brings the total number of states Amazon collects sales tax for to 45, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I’ve updated my quick reference table, although it’s almost unnecessary now as Missouri is the last state where Amazon doesn’t collect sales tax for sellers:

If you want to know more about how Amazon collects sales tax (Amazon Seller Central account required), I recommend reading Amazon’s “Marketplace Tax Collection FAQ” here.

***It’s important to note that sales tax can be a difficult topic, and you should seek the advice of a professional tax advisor to tell you how you should handle sales tax for your business.
